Being a good listener is more important than being a good speaker—master these tips:
- Make eye contact: Look the other person in the eyes while talking, and nod occasionally to respond. This shows you’re focused.
- Repeat key words: For example, if the other person says, “I like hiking,” reply, “You really like hiking—what’s your favorite mountain?” This lets them know you’re listening carefully.
- Remember details: For instance, if they mention, “I’ve been watching [TV Show Name] lately,” ask them on your next date, “Did you finish the [TV Show Name] you talked about last time?” This shows you’ve put thought into the conversation.
